About Me

Amanda Bourne, The Bourne Explorer
Hi, my name is Amanda Bourne and I am an explorer to the core.
I was delivered in nine minutes during a blustery Boston snowstorm, ready to leap out and discover the world. Since the day I can remember, I’ve sought out adventure.
Journeying into the woods for hours behind my dad’s hydrangea garden, I pretended I was on dinosaur excavations, my backpack filled with an array of snacks, my trusty Swiss Army Knife, a magnifying glass (to observe butterflies and salamanders), and always a change of clothes (explains my years of over-packing for vacation).
Whether I am wrestling down a Maine lobster like Darryl Hannah in the movie Splash, whipping up a hearty breakfast burrito with a few ingredients, or scaling a stone barricade to stroll on a deserted beach in Big Sur, I am doing it with fervor and zest…doing it my way.
I prefer to share several plates to capture the flavor and intention of the restaurant. And often you will find me eating at the bar for a more interactive dining experience. I encourage myself to stray from my detailed travel agendas, gathering tidbits from locals. And my insatiable curiosity has lead me to collect valuable advice and perspective from intriguing characters along the way, which will thread through the pages of this blog.
For over a decade, I have been engrossed in the adrenaline and predictable chaos of the hospitality world. I have exchanged my stilettos and clipboard for a pair of Tom’s kickers (snow boots, these days), a notebook, and my camera.
I live in Dumbo with my husband Travis, my gentle giant Milo, and baby girl Sunny Bea. I took another adventure a few years ago by enrolling at The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) to get my Culinary Arts degree. These days my schedule is balanced between teaming up with companies to reinvent their branding strategies and create innovative experiences, as well as, writing, exploring, observing and sharing treasured discoveries. I hope you will enjoy this journey as much as I already have…
Satisfy your senses,
Amanda (follow me on Twitter!)
